What is a basic economy?
Also called basic fare, light fare
Basic economy is an airline's cheapest, most restricted fare. It typically includes only a personal item, limits seat selection and changes, and boards last — with a carry-on, checked bags, seat choice, and flexibility often costing extra.
What's bundled into basic economy varies widely by airline, so read exactly what your fare covers — a low headline price can end up dearer than a standard fare once you add a bag and a seat.
