What is a baggage allowance?

Also called luggage allowance, weight limit

Your baggage allowance is how much luggage your ticket lets you bring — set by the number of bags, their maximum dimensions, and a weight limit per bag. Going over it means excess-baggage fees at the airport, which are usually far pricier than paying in advance.

Allowances differ by airline, route, and fare, and the weight limit differs for carry-on versus checked bags — check yours when you book, and weigh your bag at home to avoid surprises at the counter.
