What is a layering?

Also called layered clothing

Layering is dressing in several thinner garments — a base layer, a mid layer for warmth, and an outer shell — instead of one thick one, so you can add or remove pieces as the temperature changes. It's the key to packing light for variable or cold-weather trips.
